Resuming Normal Service!

After far too long spent neglecting this blog (primarily due to the new puppy and my own guild being on a raiding break), I’m finally back into the swing of things. I now have the facilities to update the blog without being tied to my desktop PC which is a huge bonus in the current temperatures we’re seeing.

Initially, I’m going to begin by updating the Cataclysm preview section with the new information that has come to light. I’ll most likely bump that back to the front page once it’s all up to date. From there I’ll see where my mood takes me but if any readers have ideas for specific articles they’d like to see (ranging from shaman issues to guild management and raid specific topics) then feel free to drop me a comment and I’ll see what I can do.

On another note, I’ve been asked to take part in the Raid Warning: Shaman Roundtable. I’ve not yet decided if I’m going to be taking part, but the scheme deserves all the publicity it can get so please do your best to support it.

As always, I welcome questions, comments or general chit chat on the blog so feel free to leave your mark!

Woot! I’m very glad you’re going to be on there too 😀

  2. June 25, 2010 at 11:55 am

Or potentially on there. I fail at reading.

  3. June 25, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Haha, yea I haven’t decided, though I noticed you were doing it! I’m quite shy so I’m not sure how it would work out 😛

    • June 25, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Yeah now I’ve seen masanbol and bink from EJ are on there I’m feeling a little redundant xD

Also I’ve not had the impetus to blog recently due to our own raid break and summer and general slow down.

  4. June 25, 2010 at 1:25 pm

I noticed their names added today also and was like “hmmmm :P”

We’ve not been raiding at all, both our tanks quit 😛

    • June 25, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Okay, tanks quitting is not helpful 😦 I’ve been starving off summer slow down by going resto and…um…playing a warrior alt (for some reason I love levelling melee, but endgame it’s casters all the way)

  5. June 25, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Nope. We had no real warning either. They both announced they had exams sort of 5 days before they vanished. One has now finished exams but quit WoW and the other is still MiA 😦

    I’m a terrible leveller 😦

  6. June 25, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Good to see you “back” Zing! Sorry to hear about your tanks – we had one disappear mid Ulduar but thankfully our offspec DPS and alts were able to fill in the gaps. I’ve now levelled and geared my own new tank (I retired my druid) just in case but I don’t think I’ll ever be needed now *eyeroll*.

On the topic of content, I’d love to see a return of the elemental strategy guides series for some of the remaining ICC bosses and perhaps Ruby Sanctum when it’s opened up? Though if you’re not raiding that might be difficult 😦

  7. June 25, 2010 at 3:52 pm

I can certainly do most of the remaining ICC guides, Charles 🙂 I’ll make a start on those later tonight since I quite enjoy doing them anyway

I’m hoping our problem will be resolved for Ruby Sanctum *crosses fingers* 😦

I hope life is treating you well!

Glad to see you back Zing :). With regards to your tanks quitting, that does really suck :(. Getting two solid tanks who know what’s what is hard enough as it is, but these things happen of course.

We have managed to keep our 10 man group together by trying not to burn people out too much, but you know if people wanna quit, people wanna quit…

I really hope to see you on the round table, I read a few few blogs so would be happy to see a familiar name :D.

  9. June 25, 2010 at 4:44 pm

I still haven’t decided and I gave myself a deadline of this evening to reply to them 😛

I must admit some of the names up there are a little intimidating 😉 I’m not really sure what kind of contribution I could make 😛

It’s summer, people always burn out and sadly, it’s worse before new expansions 😦

On a good note, I’ve been able to enjoy the sunshine much more than usual! 😀

I hope life is treating you well too Jen 🙂

    • June 28, 2010 at 10:36 am

Maybe we can be intimidated together ><? I really wish Chayah/WoWhats was gonna be on it.

  10. June 28, 2010 at 10:52 am

I’m not great at the theory crafting side. I’ve always believed my forte is taking the mathsy stuff and presenting it in a more accessible fashion for the less mathematically inclined players.

When people like binkenstein and masanbol are participating, I can’t really imagine my contribution being all that great 😛 At least if it was Charles I’d be more confident saying “aaaaaaaaaand that’s a question for Charles!” 😀

  11. June 28, 2010 at 11:40 am

Oh, I’m sure it will be fun, once people get past the accent. Plus I don’t think it’s going to be 100% Hardcore Theorycrafting Leetzors, so Masanbol & I won’t hog all the limelight (much).

Plus I’m still a little rusty on my rotation modelling mechanics.

I should go listen to the first 3 to see what the format is like… when I have time.

*shuffles off moaning “badges” in a zombie like voice*

  12. June 28, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Hmm interestingly, I think quite a few of the people they have asked are outside of the US. It’s a good thing it’s not live. I’m in Denmark, I always assumed Pewter was in Europe somewhere and yourself from New Zealand.

Welcome Binkenstein 😉 Always a pleasure to have you here 😉 Regardless of whether I participate or not in the round table, I’ll definitely be tuning in 🙂

  13. June 28, 2010 at 11:18 pm

Yeah, I’m from the UK 🙂 My forte is mainly 25mans (non-HMs) and giving tailored advice, and again I’m not really one for mathematics – practicalities instead.

Also if any of you are up for a pre-cast skype thingy just to get used to each other’s voices, that would be kind cool.

  14. June 28, 2010 at 11:48 pm

I’ve just confirmed that I’ll participate to add some sisterly support to Pewter 😉

I’d probably be up for a pre-cast skype thingie!

Also since I’m more or less on your time zone Pewter, what times have you offered your availability? I’m guessing if we had somewhat similar times then we can guarantee we’d be on together?

    • June 29, 2010 at 9:35 am

\o/ I offered from 6am (earliest I can be awake and somewhat coherent) to 1am GMT. I am a 9-5er so I get sleepy if it is past midnight, unless I’ve had a lot of coffee.

Feel free to email me btw

Hoping I will get to sit on the resto shaman panel as well, as it sounds like they might be somewhat separate.

      • June 29, 2010 at 10:56 am

I haven’t seen anything to do with the show-notes or how they’re going to structure it.

  15. June 29, 2010 at 11:07 am

    Nor have I Bink.

I emailed them last night asking if we would get advanced warning regarding the topics they want to discuss. Seven replied saying they would aim to get the questions to us 48 hours in advance so we can prepare answers or notes if we choose.

Other than that I’ve heard very little about how they intend to structure it regarding different specs or “specialities”.

  16. June 29, 2010 at 12:46 pm

It was something of assumption on my part, because it seems like we’re going to have a large amount of participants, and previous shows have been sectioned off by spec/role.

  17. July 2, 2010 at 9:43 pm

Have you guys heard much about the round table yet? My last contact was an email asking for name/email/skype etc with a bit of blurb about the show. That came after I sent about four separate emails in the space of two days suggesting people to ask (not all in one email of course, that’d have been too sensible) and the silence following that made me wonder if I’d annoyed them 😀

A pre-event Skype meetup would be somewhere on a spectrum between fun and awkward but I fear it’d be hard to arrange with the timezones. If anyone wants to know my Skype ID they can email me using the address on my blog (or PM me on a forum).

Really looking forward to the podcast (even if I don’t end up being able to make it) given the folk who are going to be present – very exciting!

    • July 2, 2010 at 9:59 pm

I should probably stop writing comments on really old posts. 😦

    • July 3, 2010 at 1:57 am

No, I haven’t heard anything yet either. Sent you my skype address on EJ.

  18. July 3, 2010 at 8:48 am

I’ve not heard anything either after sending them my details. I’m not sure I can make it yet anyway. My weekend availability is always bad since it’s the only real time I get with my other half. I did expect to have heard more details by now however 😛

I *am* curious as to what people in the immediate shaman blogging community think about Real ID. I’d love the opportunity to chat to some of you guys more and I wondered if that could facilitate it. Equally, I totally understand if people aren’t so keen as so far I’ve restricted it to real life friends anyway :p

    • July 3, 2010 at 8:53 am

You mean like a micro-community of some sort? Like forums, perhaps?

      • July 3, 2010 at 9:02 am

Or that could work! At present (as far as I can tell), we seem to be mainly restricted to “chatting” to each other via either comment sections on our blogs or via PMs on the EJ forums.

It just seems a shame to me is all as everyone seems nice and talkative 🙂

  19. July 3, 2010 at 9:20 am

Well, that raises the question of whether anyone knows of an easy way to get a forum set up.

Heck, we could even try for some sort of tankspot analogue for Shaman

    • July 3, 2010 at 9:36 am

Oooooh, *loving* that second idea especially Bink! That could be awesome.

  20. July 4, 2010 at 12:32 am

phpBB is pretty simple if you have a server to set it up on. Actually, a friend of mine was using his phpBB setup to help me start some 10-man raiding forums earlier in the year but that’s been put on hold as one of the founding partners seems to have lost interest, so that could be made available for a shaman community forum at least in the short term.

I’ve PMed my Skype ID to Zing on EJ. Don’t know how to contact pewter except through blog comments and twitter (which I don’t use).

    • July 4, 2010 at 12:38 pm

I have a contact form on my blog, and you can also nab my email via your comments system. I’m on EJ as Pewter, surprisingly enough 😉

      • July 4, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Ha, right, along the top – my blind spot apparently. I always forget some themes have stuff above the header 😦

  21. July 4, 2010 at 11:01 am

I went and made a poll to see what interest would be out there. Link it ’round! http://binkenstein.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/a-shaman-centric-site/

  22. July 4, 2010 at 3:27 pm

    @charles

No worries. I’ve sent everyone on the elemental panel an email (to the same addy the RW folks are using) – I don’t use my public email for real id.

You don’t need to be all ‘mathsy’ in my opinion. Your blog has its own style, some people don’t like to go too much into the maths anyway, sometimes simple explanations and pure common sense has its place alongside the theorycrafters. I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t ‘fit in’. The round table is meant to be a gathering of several very different people who have different ways of advising effectively with different styles of blogging/posting. A nice mix puts the icing on the cake!

Life is indeed treating me well, thanks :D.

  24. July 5, 2010 at 9:09 am

Btw, I made a poll about the community concept thingie. Link to it! http://binkenstein.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/a-shaman-centric-site/
